booking-a-home-birthHow do I arrange my first appointment?

Please email me to arrange an initial consultation. This two-hour consultation provides an opportunity for us to meet each other and discuss in detail your needs for pregnancy and birth.

As a birthing woman, one of the most important decisions you will make is your choice of care provider. This is why we put a lot of thought and time into the initial consultation, to be sure that we’re right for each other.  I welcome partners at all consultations, but especially the initial consultation as the decision to engage my service is a couple decision.  I want all of us to feel comfortable as we commit to spending many months in regular contact with each other.

Many women have questions they would like to ask me, and likewise I will have questions I would like to ask you. This is so that I can be sure of my ability to meet your needs throughout your pregnancy and birth.

birth2A consultation fee applies for the initial consultation which is offered as a health care service. As such, you are able to claim it through Medicare and tax.  On enquiring about my service, you will be emailed a welcome information pack.  This contains information about where my rooms are located, parking and fees for the initial consultation.  There will also be some information for you to complete and return to me, and once this has been received by me, we will arrange your first appointment.

I am confident that you will find value in the initial consultation whether or not you engage me as your midwife.

If you wish to engage my service, I will request that you pay an engagement of services fee. This secures your booking. Following your decision to engage my care, we will meet again very shortly for a booking-in appointment and to start your care.

Am I able to just meet you?  I don't want a consultation and I don't want to pay anything.

Being a private health care service, a fee is attached to my time which is valued by my clients.  You will find that if you meet an obstetrician, GP, dietician or other health care provider, you will be asked to pay a fee as well.  Being that midwifery is a regulated health profession, midwives meet clients in a consultation setting, rather than for an informal coffee and a chat.  Clients who have thoroughly read my website find that it does address their essential general questions about the service, fees, birth options and so on, sufficient for them to feel absolutely comfortable and confident to meet me in a consultation.  The cost may be claimed through Medicare, as with other health services.

Do I need to be low risk to see you?

My service provides back-up obstetric care, allowing me to provide an all-risk model of care.  No matter how high risk or low risk your pregnancy is, you may book with me for your care and receive continuity of midwifery care.

How do I access tests and ultrasounds?

As an eligible midwife, I will order all tests and ultrasounds for you, including your dating scan and booking bloods.

Can I see my GP for some of my care?

As a continuity model, I will provide all of your care from early pregnancy until your baby is 6 weeks old.

What if there is a problem in my pregnancy?

If we suspect something out of the ordinary or have any concerns, I will consult with the appropriate health care professional to ensure that you receive appropriate and timely care.  We want the best care for you and your baby every step of the way.

Do you provide care with an obstetrician?

Yes, we can access a supportive Specialist Obstetrician who provides back-up care.
