Where do you attend births?

I attend hospital births at Westmead Public Hospital where I provide full midwifery care.  Low risk women also have the option of birthing at home.

I am concerned about the distance from my home to Westmead Hospital.

Please contact me to discuss your location.  Women have travelled from the Eastern suburbs, Illawarra, Inner West and other areas of Sydney.  Your pregnancy appointments are either in my Bexley rooms or in your home, and your postnatal visits until day 7 are all in your home or at the hospital.  We put a lot of consideration into the distance from your home to the hospital and factor this in when we work out the right time to go to hospital in labour.

waterbirthCan you actually "deliver" my baby in a hospital?

Yes!  I attend births at Westmead Hospital in the full capacity of a midwife. Hospital staff are not routinely involved in your care.

Do you provide care with an obstetrician?

My service is backed by an experienced, supportive and caring Specialist Obstetrician who provides back-up care.

Can I have a water birth?

A water birth is absolutely possible at home or in hospital.  I am experienced at facilitating water births.

How do I know if I am "low risk" for a homebirth?

Homebirth is supported for low risk women who prefer to birth at home. Certain issues would mean that a hospital birth would be recommended, such as twins, a breech baby, having had a caesarean before, labouring before 37 weeks or after 42 weeks, concerns about the baby, high blood pressure and gestational diabetes.  This is not an exhaustive list, but it gives you an idea of the sorts of cases where I will recommend birthing at Westmead Public Hospital.  If a transfer is needed, I will care for you in Westmead Hospital to ensure that you continue to receive continuity of care.ruthlearner4
